Will The Duskbloods Still Release in 2026? October Delay Risk, Explained

It's October 2026 and The Duskbloods still has no release date. With under three months left in the year — and GTA 6 owning November — talk of a slip into 2027 is getting louder. Here's what's confirmed, what's just fear, and why the network test numbers cut both ways.

TL;DR: As of October 2026, The Duskbloods is still listed as a 2026 game — with no calendar date. The window for announce → market → launch is almost gone, and GTA 6 is about to eat November. A slip to 2027 is not official, but it is no longer a hot take. It's the base case for a lot of people watching this game.

Can The Duskbloods Still Make 2026?

That is the question Switch 2 owners keep asking this month.

The Duskbloods was announced in April 2025 as a Switch 2 exclusive for 2026. Since then we've had trailers, previews, character reveals, and a full closed network test in August. What we have never had is a release date.

It is early October. If the game still ships this year, you are looking at:

  • Less than three months of calendar left
  • A normal announce-to-launch runway compressed into that hole
  • GTA 6 landing in November and vacuuming up every oxygen molecule in the room

So searches like "is The Duskbloods delayed" and "The Duskbloods 2027" are spiking for a reason. Here's the clean version of where things stand.

The Official Line: Still 2026, Still No Day

Facts only, as of October 11, 2026:

Item Status
Release window 2026 (unchanged)
Exact date Not announced
Platform Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive
Delay confirmed? No
Network test Finished Aug 21–24, 2026

Neither Nintendo nor FromSoftware has announced a delay. Neither has locked a day. Strictly speaking, this is not a delayed game — it is a game that still will not put a date on the calendar.

Anyone telling you "it's confirmed for 2027" is guessing. Useful guessing, maybe. Still guessing.

Why "Almost Certain Delay" Became the Consensus

On October 4, ComicBook ran a piece arguing the game is "all but guaranteed" to miss 2026. The argument is not complicated. That is why it landed.

1. The dignified reveal window is closing

A major release usually needs room for:

  1. Locking a date
  2. Opening pre-orders and retail orders
  3. Preload and day-one patch
  4. A few weeks of actual marketing

It is October. Even a surprise "it's December 3" drop tomorrow would feel rushed. Slip past mid-November and you are in shadow-drop territory — a terrible plan for an online PvPvE game that lives or dies on servers.

2. GTA 6 owns November

GTA 6 ships in November 2026. The audiences are not identical. They do not need to be. GTA 6 will still:

  • Consume press and creator bandwidth
  • Eat the "which game do I buy" decision
  • Warp any publisher's marketing calendar around it

Dumping FromSoftware's big exclusive into the same month is how you turn a launch into a footnote. December or early 2027 is the grown-up dodge.

3. The network test's server problems are unfinished business

August's test was loud in both directions:

  • Good: pace, PvPvE structure, Kin system, character kits — people came away impressed
  • Bad: the first slot collapsed under server load, and PvP latency was rough

For an eight-player online game, stability is the product. The silence after the test looks a lot like "we're fixing the netcode before we talk dates," not "gold master is on the truck."

Kitao: More Applications Than Nightreign

It was not all bad news. FromSoftware producer Yasuhiro Kitao said the network test drew more applications than Elden Ring Nightreign's test.

Context matters: Nightreign had a much larger install base. Duskbloods is sitting on Switch 2 alone. A smaller platform pulling a bigger queue means:

  • The core audience is already here
  • The problem is not demand — it is the calendar
  • If this slips, it slips because of production and servers, not because nobody cares

Which is why the discourse stays hot even as the date stays cold. People want in. They just do not want to get burned.

Is December 31 Still a Thing?

Search "The Duskbloods release date" and you will still hit December 31, 2026.

That number came from late-September database fills at IGN and IGDB. We broke it down in the tracker piece:

  • Not official. Neither company has confirmed it.
  • December 31 is database shorthand for "ships this year, day TBD."
  • It is a holiday-window bet, not a leak.

Nothing in October has converted that placeholder into a real date. No trailer card. No eShop page. No preload clock. Treat December 31 as noise until Nintendo speaks.

The older threads do not help either. The December 3 prediction was partly falsified by the Direct no-show. The September 24 rumor was denied. Stack those up and the only honest conclusion is: there is no real release date on the internet right now.

Delay to 2027: How Likely?

Nobody credible is offering a percentage. What we can do is put the evidence side by side.

Case for 2026 Case for 2027
Official line never changed Still no date in October
Kadokawa keeps reconfirming 2026 GTA 6 blocks November
Network test happened — this is not a concept project Server / PvP issues may need another test
Applications beat Nightreign; demand is real September Direct skip felt deliberate

Working read:

  • Confirmed delay: no
  • Real delay risk: high, and higher than it was in September
  • Most plausible scripts: a compressed December drop, or a formal move into early 2027

Do not book time off. Do not pre-order a date a database invented. That advice has not changed since September.

What to Watch From October Onward

When Watch for What it means
Mid–late October Partner Showcase / dedicated Direct Last good stages for a 2026 date
Early November Nintendo news after GTA 6 Silence here cuts the odds hard
Anytime eShop pre-order / preload / retail listings Concrete listings ≈ date is locked
FromSoftware channels Dev notes on servers / stability Often a soft launchpad for a delay or a retest
December 2026 Still nothing? Window almost certainly slides

We'll keep the release date page current the moment anything is official.

FAQ

Is The Duskbloods delayed?

Not officially. The game is still labeled 2026. A move to 2027 is risk analysis, not an announcement.

Will it still come out in 2026?

Possible, not comfortable. October is still dateless. A 2026 launch needs a very short reveal-to-release cycle to work.

Is December 31, 2026 the release date?

No. That is a common placeholder in game databases. Nothing official backs it.

If it slips, when would it land?

No reliable info. The crowd guess is first half of 2027. That is still a guess.

Was the network test a success?

Mixed, with heat. Gameplay sentiment was strong and applications beat Nightreign. Servers and PvP latency were the weak spot — and the most likely reason nobody will print a date yet.

Bottom Line

In October 2026, The Duskbloods is two things at once:

Still a 2026 game — if you only read the official tag. Almost certainly late — if you only read the calendar.

  • Official: 2026, Switch 2 exclusive, no date
  • Street: delay risk is high; 2027 is not doomerism
  • December 31: placeholder, not a launch
  • What to do: wait for Nintendo; ignore second-hand days
