Zork Guide: How to Play The Duskbloods' Snowball Tank

Complete Zork guide for The Duskbloods — Law of the Deep Sea HP steal explained, Human Rocket and Missile combos, phase-by-phase game plan, and why this diving-suit Bloodsworn is S-tier in the network test meta.

charactersbuildstipsguideZork

TL;DR: Zork is The Duskbloods' aggressive tank / disruptor. His Aspect Law of the Deep Sea steals max HP whenever you defeat another Bloodsworn — if you get ahead, you snowball. Human Rocket and Missile force fights and break setups. Difficulty 2, but the floor is high: a Zork who survives Grail culling is a final-three threat. Never die to the player you just robbed.

Who Is Zork in The Duskbloods?

Zork is a playable Bloodsworn in The Duskbloods — FromSoftware's 8-player PvPvE action RPG, exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2. He is not the 1980 Infocom text adventure of the same name. In-game, Zork is a diving-suit wrecking ball: a winged, deep-sea salvage figure who grows cannons and rocket packs out of his suit and steals maximum life from the players he kills.

He became the meme favorite of the August 2026 network test and finished as an S-tier pick in our Bloodsworn tier list. Hidetaka Miyazaki himself has said he has a near-maternal fondness for the character — a rare piece of Nintendo-flavored charm inside Twilight industrial body-horror.

Zork's Kit, Explained

Zork's kit is built around one idea: force the fight, win the fight, grow from the fight. Every tool either starts an engagement or pays you for finishing one.

Weapons: Undersea Cable & Speargun

Slot Weapon What it does
Melee Undersea Cable Honest, reliable close-range pressure. Good stagger into confirms.
Ranged Speargun Clean mid-range poke. Use it to soften targets before you commit.

These are "honest tools" — they do not win games on their own. They set up the Blood Arts.

Blood Arts: Missile & Human Rocket

Blood Art Input idea Best use
Missile Deploy the cannon from the diving suit's back, take a firing stance, then fire Punish stationary setups. Catch people channeling, reviving, or holding a ritual.
Human Rocket Deploy the back thrusters and charge forward in flight mode Force the engage. Close distance, break formations, start the brawl Zork wants.

Human Rocket is the signature move. It turns Zork into a guided threat that the whole lobby has to answer. Missile is the follow-up or the anti-camp tool.

Aspects: Law of the Deep Sea & Dread Resonance

Aspect Effect Why it matters
Law of the Deep Sea Defeat a Bloodsworn → steal their max HP. If they defeat you later, you lose it all. The snowball engine. Early kills compound through culling phases.
Dread Resonance A non-human sonic howl. Hold [L] + [ZR] to keep it going. Interrupt telegraphed attacks, inflate stagger, bully the final-phase duel.

Law of the Deep Sea: The HP Steal Mechanic

This is the reason to play Zork — and the reason people throw games on him.

Law of the Deep Sea explained in one sentence: when you defeat another Bloodsworn, you permanently gain max HP; if that same player later defeats you, you lose the HP you stole from them.

How the snowball works

  1. Phase I — farm Virtue and look for a clean Bloodsworn elimination (not just PvE).
  2. Each kill raises your max HP ceiling. In a game where the Grail culls low-Virtue Bloodsworn in Phases II–III, extra HP is extra survival budget.
  3. Culling phases — weaker players die to the Grail or to you. Hunt the wounded.
  4. Final three — stolen max HP stacks with raw Virtue bonuses. You enter the last fight as the raid boss.

How people throw

  • Dying to their victim. If the player you robbed finishes you, the stolen HP is returned. Greed throws the lead.
  • Chasing kills into the open. Zork wants controlled fights, not 1v3s in a field.
  • Ignoring Virtue. HP does not stop the Grail. You still need Virtue to survive culling.

The rule of thumb

After a steal, reset or play safer. You are now worth more dead to the one person who can take it back.

How to Play Zork: Phase-by-Phase Game Plan

The Duskbloods runs a four-phase Dusk Battle. Zork's job changes as the clock moves.

Phase I — Establish the snowball

  • Contest ritual sites early. Virtue now, kills later.
  • Use Speargun to soften; commit with Human Rocket only when you have a real edge.
  • Your first Bloodsworn elimination is the most important moment of the match.

Phases II–III — Survive the Grail, hunt the weak

  • The Grail culls low-Virtue Bloodsworn. Do not be one of them.
  • Pick off players already damaged by culling or by other fights. Law of the Deep Sea wants Bloodsworn eliminations, not just farming.
  • Save Dread Resonance to cancel telegraphed attacks when someone tries to collapse on you.

Phase IV — Be the problem in the final three

  • Stolen HP + Virtue bonuses make you the natural front-liner.
  • Hold the howl in duels. Extended Dread Resonance inflates stagger and ruins combo timing.
  • Force the other two to deal with you — then let them fight each other.

Zork Tips & Combos That Actually Work

1. Kill to grow

Law of the Deep Sea wants Bloodsworn eliminations, not just PvE. Hunt players who are already weak from the Grail's culling.

2. Do not die to your victim

HP stolen is lost if the player you robbed finishes you. After a steal, reset or play safer — greed throws the lead.

3. Hold the howl

Dread Resonance ([L] + [ZR]) extends while held. Use it to cancel telegraphed attacks or to bully a final-phase duel.

4. Human Rocket is an opener, not an escape

Do not burn it to run away if you can burn it to start the fight you want. Zork wins by choosing engagements.

5. Missile punishes greed

When someone channels, revives, or camps a ritual, Missile is the answer. Deploy, stance, fire.

6. Play the raid boss, not the assassin

Zork is difficulty 2 for a reason. You do not need fancy stealth. You need to be the threat the lobby must address, then cash in when they fail.

Zork vs Other Bloodsworn

Matchup Verdict Why
Zork vs Albert Even / Zork favored late Albert is the safer all-rounder. Zork outscales him in the final three if the snowball starts.
Zork vs Sniper Layla Zork favored up close Layla owns long sightlines. Close the gap with Human Rocket and she loses her game.
Zork vs Bloodhand Jan Skill matchup Both want long fights. Whoever lands the better Dread Resonance / sustain loop wins.
Zork vs Trang Lanh Zork favored Trang wants ambush. Zork's kit breaks setups and forces honest fights.
Zork vs Senator Samir Patres Samir favored if clean Samir punishes bad positioning. Zork who face-checks dies; Zork who engages on his terms wins.

Is Zork Good? Network-Test Verdict

Yes — Zork is S-tier in the August 2026 network test meta, for three reasons:

  1. Consistency. Difficulty 2, high floor. Survives culling more reliably than stealth or tech picks.
  2. Snowball. Law of the Deep Sea turns early leads into final-phase dominance.
  3. Forced attention. Human Rocket makes him the player everyone has to answer — and that pressure wins games even when he does not top the kill board.

He is also the community favorite of the network test: the diving-suit winged figure with the stolen-HP rule set is pure FromSoftware cruelty wrapped in a weirdly lovable design.

Caveat: this is a network-test preview ranking, not the final retail build. Launch balance is still unannounced. See our full tier list for the rest of the roster.
